What IS Backlinks?? – In Leyman’s Terms the Average Joe Can Understand

What is backlinks? Ha! Do I have your attention now? This article will explain exactly what backlinks are (or in this case, and for SEO purpose’s – what is backlinks. I’m very aware this is not grammatically correct, but it accents the point I’m trying to make with the most basic broken down definition you can understand ;) )

Backlinking is important because it let’s the search engine’s (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc) know your site is important to other sites. When the search engine’s know this, then they rank your website (meaning they determine what page and what number your site should show on when a person searches for the specific keywords you’ve targeted.)

So what are backlinks?

A backlink is a link anywhere on the web that when clicked, takes the person to your website, or webpage. The link can be an original URL, or it can be a text link. A text link is making the link into text. Like this: SEO Link Monster Review. Notice that I made the link into words, instead of keeping it the URL. Using text links are the best kind of backlinks you can have for your site, because the search engine’s use that as an indication to find out if your website is really worthy of the keywords you’ve chosen to get ranked for. (In the case above, the keywords I’ve chosen to try to get ranked for that page is SEO Link Monster Review. So I pointed a link to that page using the keywords.)

The more relevant backlinks you have to your site, the better. Backlinking can be very tedious and time consuming, but without them, your site will never raise up in the search engine rankings, and therefore, your traffic to your website will never increase. How Do I Get Backlinks to My Site?

How do I get backlinks to my site? You’ve likely asked yourself that very question many 07times throughout your journey of website building. Here, you can find a few ideas you can use to get backlinks to your website. Keep in mind, getting backlinks takes time and patience, and it will never produce immediate results. You have to continually work on your link building campaign to see results.

  • Post on other blogs with a link back to your site. If you do this, make sure you keep your comment related to the actual article. It’s taboo to post something irrelevant to the authors actual post just to get a link back to your site. Make sure your comment contributes to the article. You also stand a higher chance of getting your comment to  be approved. :) You can use your keywords as your anchor text (the link pointing back to your site) by putting the keywords as your name. It’s also helpful to only post on blogs that are relevant to your site.
  • Write an article that is relevant to your website. Post it on different article directories. Make sure you include the link back to your site either somewhere in the article, or in the about the author box. It’s also helpful (but not necessary) to change each article a bit. The search engines love original content, and if you have the same link in the same article, it can seem like duplicate content. Because it is. :)
  • Join different forums and create a signature line. You can have a link back to your site. Make sure you don’t have a hay day with this…don’t go posting your link everywhere and don’t become spammy. Forums look down on this, and you risk the chance of getting banned from the forum. Only post when you have something to contribute.
  • A paid membership such as SEO Link Monster (or even MyArticleNetwork) work great. You can write an article and post it on thousands of different blogs and get high quality “in content” links back to your site. Other places you can post articles to are places like GoArticles, Squidoo, and HubPages. These are great places to post articles with a link back to your site. They are highly ranked with the search engines, and getting a link back from one of these sites could be very advantageous. You’ll have to create accounts, but it’s worth it.

Backlinks are an important part of getting your website ranked with the search engines. Keep at it, and you’ll see the benefits over time. Don’t give up! It’s tedious, but in the end, you’ll be glad you did.

Why Should You Get Backlinks to Your Site?

Back links provide a very valuable asset to your website. Basically, they tell Google your site is important, and other sites think so too. Google uses a very complex algorithm to determine your sites worth, but yet it’s a very simple concept. One of the big things Google looks for when determining which sites to show on the first page (called being ranked by Google) is the backlinks to the site.

A backlink is a text link that points back to your site from another site. In leymen’s terms, a different website is pointing to your website. What this tells Google is that your website is favored by other websites, and should therefor be treated as such. Of course, this gets deeper into complexity as we go, but to keep it simple, the more sites that link to you, the better.

It’s best to try to get back links that are relevant to your site, and use the keyword you are targeting. For example, if I had a website that I was targeting the word “how do I get backlinks”, I would want to make sure my backlink (the link pointing back to my site) was actually a text link using the words “how do I get back links to my site“. If you click on that link, you’ll see that I linked that text to this page. It’s not a real backlink because it’s an internal link, but you get the point. :) If that link were on a different website, it would be considered a back link.

Another thing to keep in mind when getting backlinks is the sites they come from. Google loves any kind of back link, but the higher page rank the site pointing back to you has, the better the link. If it’s a high ranked site, Google sees that as extra special.

So How Do You Get Backlinks to Your Site?

It takes a while if you do it manually. You can post articles on different article directories with a link pointing back to your site. You can post on other peoples blogs with a link back to your site (do this respectfully – only post comments that actually contribute to the authors writing), you can post in forums with a link back to your site, contact other website owners and ask them to link back to you…as I said, it’s an extremely tedious project getting back links to your site. But in the end, with dedication and consistency, when you are beating your competition and your site is ranked for the keywords you’re targeting, it will pay off in the end.

Matt and Brad Callen – Who are they?

You may have heard about two guys somewhere along your internet marketing lines… Matt and Brad Callen. So who are they? But more importantly, why should you care?

Matt Callen is the brother of Brad Callen. And vice versa ;) . They are two men who have really rocked the internet marketing world with their amazing software products. A few you may have heard of are Keyword Elite (Brad Callen), SEO Elite (Brad Callen), Affiliate Elite (Brad Callen) and My Article Network (Matt Callen). These are only a few of the products created by the young men, but rest assured, there are at least a dozen combined between the two. I have personally used 4 of their products, and will continue to use them because of their top notch customer support, and most importantly, their products actually deliver what they promise.

What sets Brad and Matt apart?

The young men are clearly very driven, and very successful. Every product they put out is backed by their 100% customer support. This is rather difficult to find anymore, but the two gentlemen obviously put their customers first.
